About Passage Notes

Patrick Hughes

I'm the writer behind Passage Notes. Over thirty-plus years I've travelled across sixty-five countries, taken more than two hundred flights, and spent a probably unreasonable amount of time studying timetables, comparing routing options, and working out the best way to get from A to B.

My background is in journalism - radio, television, and print - and more recently in corporate IT, which taught me that clear information presented well is worth more than any amount of vague inspiration. I'm based in the North of Ireland.

I love nothing more than planning a trip and working out where to go, and how to get there. That's what this site is about.

What Passage Notes covers

Routes, transfers, and destination logistics - the practical intelligence layer that helps you plan the journey, not just dream about the destination. Which airport to fly into, how to get from the airport to the city, which neighbourhood to stay in, and how the transport system actually works when you're standing in front of it.

Every recommendation on this site comes from personal experience. If I haven't been there, it's not here.

The network
